Camp Open Days 2019

The gang w flowers, May 2012Put on an old pair of jeans, comfy sneakers and your work gloves and grab your group of colleagues or friends and join us for Camp Open Days in June!!

Camp Y-Wood is an affordable summer day camp, serving children ages 5 to 13.  The camp site offers 22-acres of beautiful, sprawling grounds located on Captain’s Pond in nearby Salem, NH.  Open fields for sports, a beach front water entry for swimming & boating and inside/outside craft areas keep campers engaged and entertained for hours!

Because of severe weather damage sustained at the Camp during 2018, we were unable to open Camp Y-Wood for the summer sessions.  Instead, we have been reconstructing the damaged areas.  Our plan is to run camp sessions during the summer of 2019.

We hope to host corporate and civic groups to come to camp in late spring to help prepare the campsite.  This is a great opportunity for corporate or civic groups to join together and come up for a half day [either 8 am to 12 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm] or a full day [9 am to 4 pm].

Once you sign up, your group arrives on the selected day and time, and you’ll be divided into pairs or small groups and assigned tasks to complete.  Tasks include painting [both exterior or interior surfaces], yard work [such as raking, pruning, brush clearing], planting plants, beach prep [raking sand and organizing floats], boat cleaning, and a myriad of unpacking and cleaning projects both inside and outside our Main Cabin.

What to Wear & BringBob came prepared for his work!
* Comfortable work clothes that include long pants and a long shirt [in some of the wooded areas, there is poison ivy, so we advise wearing long pants/sleeved shirts to avoid any contact].

* Hat or cap
* Sunblock
* Sneakers or work boots
* Work gloves
* Any equipment that you could bring including large trash bags, rake, pruning sheers, paintbrush or paint tray.  Note: We have equipment, too, but it’s helpful if volunteers can bring some things for your own access!  You may also bring some plants to plant if you’d like!

Many corporate groups who volunteer enjoy having a special time during the day to enjoy lunch together and/or engage in some business team building experience.  We can accommodate this if you’d like!  We offer picnic tables – both indoor and outdoor, as well as open fields, a swimming area and changing stalls.  If you’re interested in this, please contact Susan McNeff before signing up!

How to Sign Up
Contact us and let us know [a] your group, [b] your group size, [c] special skills of your group [if any] and your [d] day/time choice.  Note:  We merge volunteers, but can also accommodate volunteers from one business on a certain day/time if you let us know.  This way, ABC Company would be up on Tuesday [for example] and we would not have volunteers from other places on this day.
