After School

YS Girl, Adorable, Ethnic, 2011After-School and Out-of-School-Time Enrichment

The YWCA provides a safe, enriching and fun environment year-round for children ages 5 to 14 at three sites, including our Main Building on Lawrence Street in Lawrence, our Enrichment Center located on Broadway Street in Lawrence and at our Haverhill site.  Most of our programs operate after-school during the school year and all day during school vacation weeks and the summer. YWCA programs are fully licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Every child enrolled in these programs receives:

  • A healthy afternoon snack after school
  • A healthy morning and afternoon snack during summer and school vacations
  • One-way transportation to the YW site from the child’s school
  • Homework help and academic enrichment
  • Full access to YWCA activities and facilities, including our full-size pool and gymnasium.

Where We’re Located

YWCA After-School and Out-of-School-Time programs are housed in 3 convenient locations:

  • YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts main building, 38 Lawrence Street, Lawrence
  • YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts Enrichment Center, 530 Broadway Street, Lawrence
  • YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts, 107 Winter Street, Haverhill

Fees and Hours of Operation

Fees are based on a sliding scale that considers family income and size, so parents pay what they can afford. During the school year, the YWCA after-school program runs from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., except on school holidays. The program is open on school vacations and during the summer from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Activities

All activities are age-appropriate and focus on social, emotional and academic development. The YWCA creates many opportunities for children to make their own choices and to be creative! Children have the opportunity to enjoy playing team sports and getting physical activity in the gymnasium, pool or nearby park. Children can also visit the Homework Help center for help provided by classroom educators. Those in need of extra academic help can get one-to-one or small-group tutoring.

Enrichment

Does your child want to join the Urban Explorers club and have the chance to go hiking, camping and kayaking? Does she want to participate in Girls’ Center that helps young girls dream about a future full of possibilities? Maybe he wants to learn to swim, learn karate or publish a newspaper? The YWCA offers all of these Enrichment programs and more as part of our After-School Program. We also regularly schedule opportunities for parents to join in the fun during evening family events.
